Spain Park Athletics

Coach Stephen Hobbs is the head coach of the boys varsity and junior varsity bowling teams.  He has been the boys bowling coach since the inception of bowling as an AHSAA sport in 2015.  During that time the team has won 4 state championships (2016, 2017, 2022, and 2024) and a state runner-up (2017).  

Coach Hobbs came to Spain Park in 2001 when the school first opened and during that time he has been a chemistry and AP chemistry teacher along with also coaching the boys varsity tennis team (2001-2006, 2015-2019), the girls varsity tennis team (2022), and the freshman volleyball team (2001-2002).  The boys tennis team won 2 state runner-ups in 2002 and 2015.

Coach Hobbs came to Spain Park from Baton Rouge where he started his teaching and coaching career.  While in Baton Rouge Coach Hobbs taught at Christian Life Academy (1982-1987), Baton Rouge High School (1987-1995), and Episcopal High School (1995-2001) teaching chemistry and A.P. chemistry.  He also coached tennis and varsity volleyball during those years during which time the girls tennis team won 2 state championships (1995,1996).

Coach Hobbs received his B.S. in Chemistry degree from Oral Roberts University in 192 and his Masters in Educational Leadership from Montevallo University in 2011.  He is also a National Board Certified Teacher in Secondary Science.  He is married to Linda Hobbs and together they have 3 grown children.
