Spain Park could not hold onto the lead against Hartselle on Saturday night in Vestavia's Red & Blue Classic, and fell 12-9 despite leading by six at one point. Despite the loss, the Jaguars did collect seven hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Hartselle had nine hits on the way to victory.
Spain Park opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two home runs. The Jags first got on the board when
Abby King homered to right field, scoring three runs. Four more Jaguars crossed the plate in the second inning to extend the lead to 9-3.
Klara Thompson homered to center field, scoring two runs,
Allie Whitaker doubled, scoring a run, and
Maxie Provost singled, scoring one more run.
Hartselle flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring nine runs on seven hits to take the lead, 12-9. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to right field by Norgard that drove in three.
Kubica started the game for Hartselle. The right-handed pitcher gave up four hits and five runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out two and walking one.
Abby King drove the middle of the lineup, leading Spain Park with three RBIs.
Maxie Provost added two hits in two at bats.
