Chloe Wade drove in four runs on three hits to lead Spain Park past Athens 12-9 on Friday in Game 2 of Vestavia's Red & Blue Classic. Wade doubled in the first inning, scoring three runs, and hit a solo home run to left field in the third inning.
Spain Park got on the board in the top of the first inning after
Klara Thompson's 2-run home run,
Maxie Provost's RBI single,
Mary Payton Dees's RBI line-out, and Wade's 3-run double.
Athens tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a single by Brewer, a grand slam to left field by Thornton, and a single by Tedford.
In the top of the second, the Jaguars broke up the tie when Dees singled, scoring two runs. Then a line out by
Morgan Bryant followed to extend the lead to 10-7. Spain Park added to their lead with two runs in the top of the third inning thanks to home runs by Wade and
Abby King.
Jaley Young started in the circle for Spain Park and gave up six hits and seven runs (five earned) over two-thirds of an inning, striking out two and walking two. Townsend started the game for the Golden Eagles. The right-handed pitcher surrendered three hits and four runs over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking one. Provost, King, and
Peyton Williamson each appeared in relief for the Jaguars.
